Helene’s ending is not as bad as I initially expected based on spoilers. The Helene/Harper stuff is slightly more tasteful but only barely because tbh Helene and Harper have a more mature relationship compared to Laia trying to seduce Elias back into his “human” emotions with mangoes and pestering. There is just a lot of weird messaging about romantic and sexual love and equating it with happiness and/or humanity in both the Helene/Harper and Elias/Laia relationships. Uhuh I mean sucks for Helene but Sabaa, you had all the control in this so you didn’t even have to do this at all. Yes, I’m weak for his type but what is new?Īnd while Helene is the only main character who isn’t completely full of brainrot at this point, I know Sabaa only writes Helene to make her suffer and be like “isn’t it sad that she has no love in her life?”. The only character worth reading about is Musa, and he isn’t even a main character. As an overview of where I stand on the previous books in the series, I loved An Ember in the Ashes (#1) but did not care for A Torch Against the Night (#2) or A Reaper at the Gates (#3). We’ve finally reached the end of An Ember in the Ashes. Warning: The amatonormativity is strong in this one.ĭo I like Helene? No. A Sky Beyond the Storm (An Ember in the Ashes #4) by Sabaa Tahir
